M32 - 4L60E Input Speed Sensor

Hi All

Can anyone suggest a way to find out if my 2006 Escalade with an M32 4L60EHD transmission has an Input speed sensor (ISS)?

I've read that M32 was for early 4L65Es and that for Cadillac they were described as 4L60EHDs (which is how the 2006 RPO list describes it)

I can't find the cut in date for the ISS sensor. Maybe all 4L60EHDs and all 4L65Es got ISS?

Here's why:

I've got a 2006 Envoy and a spare 4L60E for it.

I've purchased a 2006 Escalade.

I need to know if I can upgrade the spare Envoy 4L60E to work in the Escalade. I know there are some hard parts like shafts and planetaries that would need changing but if the vehicle is expecting an ISS signal and I install a trans that doesn't provide it I'll be in trouble. I'm having a really hard time finding out if the trans in my 2006 has an ISS

If this spare trans can be upgraded to work in the Escalade I can sell the Envoy tomorrow and rebuild the spare 4l60E later. If not I need to either sell the trans with the Envoy or rebuild it right away and swap it into the car before selling.

Maybe find a wiring diagram and check for the presence of a ISS wire at the PCM?? Might be easier than getting underneath and checking for the wire at the 20 pin at the transmission.

I see the ISS wire at terminal K of the 20 pin on a 2007 diagram and a 2006 diagram reports "not used" there at terminal K.

I'll see if I can locate the PCM side while I have another 5 hours on a layover/delay at the airport!! Gotta love those mechanical issue delays!!

Thanks TJ, that's a great idea.

When I look in the manual the oil pump assembly diagram shows that the pump can have either a "A/T ISS Hole Plug" or an "A/T ISS Assembly" and then there is a note that says "model dependent".

The pin-out for the 20 pin connector says pin K is "Not Used".

There is no ISS shown in the 4L60E section.

If the manual is correct I think it would indicate that up to 2006 the Escalade received a version of the 4L60E that perhaps had beefed up shafts and planetaries but did not yet have the ISS. Maybe that's why they called it the M32 - 4L60EHD and not the 4L65E.

Did the PCM change from 2006 to 2007? Maybe there was no option for the ISS in the 2006 PCM so they put the 'plug' in the pump until 2007?

This would be good news, I could buy the new shafts and planetaries and turn my 4L60E into a 4L60EHD and use it in the Escalade.

So I used the service literature from the https://charm.li/ site and there the 2006 Escalade only shows a 6.0 liter engine with a PCM. For the 2007 Escalade they only show a 6.2 liter engine with and ECM and a separate TCM.

The 2006 20 pin C175 pinout agrees with you posting of "not used" for both terminal K and terminal V.

The 2007 20 pin C175 pinout has the ISS signal at terminal K and the low reference at terminal V. Seen here in schematic #2...

Now the 6.0 liter (also vin N) with 4l80 in the Escalade EXT shows an ISS and a PCM.

What have you got there anyway?

I've got the 6.0 litre LQ9 engine (VIN 'N') and the M32 Transmission.

2006

Is there a way to see the ISS with Torque Pro?

Well,,,, not really.

The trouble is that the PCM supports a PID for ISS even when there is no ISS there! I have often wondered just how they calculate that value (and also the TCC slip speed) having only the transmission output speed sensor and engine rpm to work with.
