Brake hose pinching pliers

What are your thoughts on using brake hose pinch pliers to stop the flow of brake fluid when changing calipers. Will the practice lead to premature hose failure? Lets say the pliers are the special purpose ones with rounded jaws and gapped throat, and the brake hose is more than 10 years old, but with no signs of cracking.

I used them on my 02 when I had it and it was never a problem.

I use a small pair of needle nosed vise grips with rubber tubing on the jaws. Been doing it for years. Never an issue.

I've used the screw type hose pinchers, same idea, no problem here. With the pliers, you have to be sure you don't overpinch the hose too tight.
